Note: Qualified
Attorneys handling cases under the federal September
11th Victim Compensation Fund should access materials

Important
Note: All Trial Lawyers
Care programs and materials are free to all
Trial Lawyers Care lawyers who have volunteered
their services through Trial Lawyers Care, Inc.,
and all other lawyers providing pro bono services
who agree to sign Trial Lawyers Care's Pro Bono
Pledge. For all other participants, the cost of
these programs (including materials) is $150. The
cost of materials alone is $65. Program audiotapes
will be available for $79, while program videotapes
will be available for $99. For more information,

Free Training for Attorneys Working on 9/11
Comp Fund - March 1, 2004
The
National Center for Victims of Crime has
asked us to let you know that it is offering
a free training for attorneys who are representing
victims in claims to the federal Sept. 11
Victim Compensation Fund. The training will
focus on practical strategies for presenting
effective claims and on recent developments
with the Fund. All attorneys representing
Sept. 11 victims are encouraged to attend.

NYSTLA Training Session Materials
NYSTLA made audio and video tapes of the
November 6, 2002, training session for TLC
volunteers in New York City and is offering
them at cost, which includes CLE accreditation
if you are eligible. That cost is $35 for
the three audio tapes or $40 for the two

Annual Convention in Atlanta, Ga., on Tuesday,
July 23, 2002, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Revenue Service Publication 3920:
"Tax Relief for Victims of Terrorist Attacks Act."
The
Internal Revenue Service has just released Publication
3920 (Adobe PDF File -click here
to get Adobe Reader for free), which explains the
scope and application of the recently passed "Tax
Relief for Victims of Terrorist Attacks Act." This
Act provides tax forgiveness on federal income tax
liabilities for decedents who died as a result of
the September 11 attacks, as well as a result of
the Oklahoma City attack and any of the anthrax
attacks. It also declares that payments from the
September 11 Victim Compensation Fund and from various
disaster relief, death benefit and public safety
survivor payments will not be regarded as income
for tax purposes.
